Children will also be taking part in the Let’s Get Brushing programme. They will know how regularly brushing is important for their health. |

Listening, Attention and Understanding Children will talk about key events in a story. Children will ask when questions. Speaking Children will know and retell ‘Supertato, Giraffes Can’t Dance, The Hungry Caterpillar. Children will know and use vocabulary linked to their theme and stories they read. Children will develop their oracy skills through various activities and opportunities. Children will express their ideas using past and present tense. |

Physical Development |
Gross Motor and Fine Motor Skills We will be continuing to develop our 5 Fundamental Movement Skills, running, jumping, throwing (overarm), catching and hopping including travelling and rolling with accuracy. Through planned provision activities we will continue to develop our fine motor and hand eye coordination skills. Children will know how to correctly form lower case letters. |

Comprehension and Word Reading Fiction Key Texts: Supertato by Sue Hendra, The Tiger who came to Tea by Judith Kerr, The Odd Egg by Emily Gravett, Jack and the Beanstalk by Iona Treahy and What’s in the Witches Kitchen? By Nick Sharratt. We will also be watching animations to support our Literacy too. RWI: Continuing to develop knowledge of SET 1 sounds including special friends and begin to blend, read and spell words when they are ready. Children will also be moving onto short stories(Ditties) and Red books. Writing The children will still be encouraged to mark make independently. They will continue to write their names and familiar letters of the alphabet. If your child is ready, they may begin to blend letters into words and form lower-case and capital letters correctly by the end of term. Children will begin to spell words and short sentences using Fred Fingers.

Understanding of the world |
Past and Present, People Culture and Communities and The Natural World We will be learning about different people who help us including the fire fighters, police officers and professionals from the health service. We will be linking what we know to the past, making connections and comparisons between then and now. We will also be learning about different animals, exploring their habitats, life cycles and food. We will also be discovering special stories mentioned in the Bible and The Qur’an. |

Expressive Arts and Design |
Creating with Materials Children will be exploring paint and painting techniques through nature, music and collaborative work. Developing creativity through child-led exploration of mixed-media, making collages and transient art. Being Imaginative and Expressive Charanga- Everyone- Copying-clapping some rhythms of phrases from familiar known songs. We will be exploring high pitch and low pitch in the context of the songs, and we will be inventing new ways to find a pulse. |

Computing |
Online Safety Children will be talking about how to keep safe online. Programming Children will be experimenting with programming a Bee-bot/ Blue-bot and learning how to give simple commands. |

Stories by the same author This half term we will continue to develop Key Stage 1’s writing skills. We will build our vocabulary and grammar each week, focussing on spelling, joining words, apostrophes and sentence structure. We will look at texts written by Smirti Halls, focussing on similarities in her texts and using this to create our own narrative, based on a model. Non-chronological reports This half term, the non-chronological reports will link to science. We will research and create fact files about different animals, noting their lifestyles, what they eat and where they live. |

Animals including Humans. Your child will be learning to identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. Grandparents’ treasures What games and toys did our grandparents play with? Are they different to the ones children play with now? Are any similar. Children will use first-hand information to find out how toys have changed within living memory. |

Textiles: Puppets Exploring different ways of joining fabrics before creating their own hand puppets based upon characters from a well-known fairytale. Children work to develop their technical skills of cutting, glueing, stapling and pinning. |

Stories with issues and dilemmas This half term, children will read the text, The Great Kapok Tree, this will be used as a stimulus to create their own narrative about dilemmas and solutions. Year 3 and 4 will continue to develop grammar skills and application, embedding previous skills and learning new techniques. Persuasion The non-fiction topic this half term will focus on persuasion. Throughout this topic, children will learn to write in a persuasive manner, sharing facts and opinions and participate in healthy debates to inform their writing. |

Children will be describing the purpose of a trailer, design their own storyboard and create a finished trailer. When taking pictures, they will need to consider the angles and the product, they will import pictures and edit using editing software. They will be able to add text to the videos and incorporate transitions between images and then finally evaluate their product. |

Y5. Science Fiction. Your child will read a variety of science fiction texts, they will create their own science fiction stories using their imagination and applying taught grammar skills. Information booklets. The non-fiction topic this half term will be Victorian Preston, linking to our history topic, sharing what we have researched and found out. Y6. Older Literature. This half term, your child will focus on Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare. They will investigate his writing style and language and use this to create their own stories int eh same style. Poetry. Your child will learn to recite a variety of poems, linked to a topic, focusing on texts such as ‘The Witches’ by Roald Dahl and ‘Double, Double, Toil and Trouble’ by William Shakespeare. This will inform their writing, and they will create their own poem based on these structures. |

Life in Victorian Preston. Children will learn all about Preston’s rich Victorian past, its buildings, notable people and industrial development. We will examine how the rich, the middle class and the poor lived their lives. A visit to Winckley Square will bring the past to life with all the surrounding buildings and the stories they tell. Textiles – Waistcoats. Children will learn about waistcoats and how they are made. They will select materials and use a template to cut and prepare ready for sewing. They will use a simple running stitch to make their own waistcoats. Children will wear their waistcoats during a Victorians day. |

Charanga - Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan – a Pop Ballad sung by Adele. We will also be learning and performing a song about life in a Victorian matchstick factory – Bryant and May. Mr. McLoughlin has written a song about the effects of “Fozzy Jaw” which workers suffered from. We will perform it in a KS2 assembly and post the recording on class dojo. |

Islam – We will be learning all about Hajj (a pilgrimage to Mecca). |

Presenting - Pupils will focus on asking questions and providing accurate replies. They will demonstrate a growing understanding of grammar to manipulate language and start to create sentences of their own using a range of personal details including name, age, where they live and nationality. |

Computing |
Children will continue their work on the Mars Rover and investigate how they work. They will be creating a pixel picture and understanding that a pixel is the smallest element of a digital image. They will link this to prior knowledge and know that this is transferred by binary code. They will combine these skills in 3D design tools. |
