Welcome to Our Early Years Foundation Stage!

My name is Ms Patel, and I teach the Ducklings alongside Mrs Dutton who teaches the Cygnets. We have a wonderful team of Teaching Assistants supporting us too, they are Mrs Nakhuda, Miss Darr, Mrs Mohammed, Miss Hobson, Mrs Gardner and Mrs Ibitoye.

Ducklings and Cygnets are a mix of Nursery and Reception children. Our classrooms are a fun, wonderful and exciting place for children to explore, develop and investigate! We thrive to provide each child with a quality early years’ experience. We pride ourselves in developing relationships with who we believe are the first educators in their child’s lives, you!

Our EYFS Vision

Our Frenchwood Community Primary School motto is ‘Together We Grow’.

In our EYFS unit we lay the seeds to allow our children to flourish. We focus on opportunities for our children to develop their communication and language skills, through rich interactions and high-quality learning experiences. Children learn through play in a specially designed curriculum that engages and challenges. Our rich diversity enables us to learn from our local community and the wider world , encouraging our learners to be respectful and kind to one another. Our highly skilled adults model our collaborative and hardworking values. Our welcoming environment helps children feel safe and secure allowing everyone to feel success.

We welcome you to join our Frenchwood Family.

General Reminders:

  • Library: Each week, the children will have the opportunity to visit the school library and choose a new book to read and enjoy. This is on a Monday Afternoon so please ensure their Library book is in school on that day so they do not miss out on this opportunity.
  • PE: We have PE once a week on Wednesday. Please make sure the children come to school in their PE kits on those days. If they have long hair, ensure it is tied back and earrings are taken out or covered.
  • Reading Wallets: These will be collected on Thursday. Please ensure reading wallets are in book bags everyday, we love to read with the children too.

Read Write Inc

Read Write Inc. is a popular phonics scheme. Like all phonics schemes, it teaches children the sounds in English, the letters that represent them, and how to form the letters when writing. Read Write Inc. Phonics includes reading books written using only the letters they have learnt at each level (and a small number of separately taught tricky words). The children will quickly feel confident and successful.

WellComm is a speech and language toolkit used by early years and primary practitioners.

An important part of WellComm is the age-appropriate Big Book of Ideas providing a total of over 150 instant, play-based activities so appropriate action can be taken straight away. Activities can be used with parents at home too, so that support is provided whether or not a child is referred to a speech and language therapist.

At Frenchwood, all children in Early Years are assessed within the first few weeks of starting. This highlights appropriate next steps and targets which they work towards with a trained member of staff.

Children are regularly assessed and moved on aiming to graduate from the programme when they are at the age appropriate section.

The Parent Cards below will provide you with ideas on how to support your child at home. Please speak to your child's class teacher to find out what section they are currently working on.
